80th Anniversary of the Night of the Bridges: The Forgotten Moments ― Guided by Gaby ZoharFri May 15
Dates & Times
The route recreates the forgotten moments, in the only operation that failed 80 years ago, the explosion of the HaZiv Bridge.
We will take a trip to the central points of the bridge-blowing mission assigned to the first Palmach battalion under the command of Yechiam Weitz, which ended tragically. The two bridges were located on the Haifa-Tzur coastal road in Lebanon: one, on the road to Rosh Hanikra, and one in a tunnel hewn in the mountain, through which the railway passed. The Kziv stream passed under both bridges. The Jewish villages to which the withdrawal was planned after the operation were few: Nahariya and Shavei Zion, and further east ― Matzuva, Eilon, and Hanita.
We will go step by step, and to the places where the drama took place. During the tour, we will visit the area of Achziv and meet with Rina Avivi.
The trip in done private cars and is a light difficulty level.
If possible and depending on the situation, we will visit the museum in the Western Galilee that documents the event, we will visit the Achziv area, and the well-known and lesser-known sites related to the Night of the Bridges in the Western Galilee.
